Is Influenza Virus (the flu) a provirus or a retrovirus?

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Had a research assignment for my biology class and can’t find the answer anywhere… Anyone know?

Neither… think retrovirus can become a provirus, so not sure I would try to classify viruses as eiter pro or retro, from what I remember. Influenza is really in a class to itself (the influenza virus class- more technical name out there, just not sure if you need-I’d have to look up)

Farming: Would industrial hemp be an ideal solution for use of hog farm runoff?

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

as in “runoff” I mean “hog s**t” - to use as hemp fertilizer
I understand it is generally too acidic, “hot”, nitrogenous, for other typical farm crops, soybeans, corn…
is this yet another no-brainer which is not allowed because of government idiocy of “illegality”?
could the lives of farmers be saved by not having such a threat from storage of tons of hog runoff when it could go directly into fields to stimulate economic growth?
Same question applies in regard to medical marijuana, or un-illegalized recreational marijuana in general

It isn’t which specific crop one uses to absorb or incorporate the amounts of nitrogenous waste. Any crop would benefit. After a good round of composting which could also yield substantial bio gas, if it is too acidic then it could easily be brought into line with limestone applications. Reducing consumption of meat products would be a better answer as they are stressful to the environment in a number of ways and the health issues associated with heavy meat consumption probably are high on the health risk list, right up there with tobacco. Hemp as a fiber and as an oil source is a good idea and the use of hemp as a source for paper manufacturing (fiber again) is roughly 7 times the fiber per acre compared to wood. The hemp though that is grown for the textile and paper industry would not be a good flower producer. We don’t need to smoke that stuff. It causes permanent brain injury especially in a young developing brain and because of the way that it is smoked, one joint is equivalent to one PACK of cigarettes. The cost to the health care industry as well as to social order is way too steep. Anyone that has smoked pot and quit will tell you that the amazing clarity of thought and the level of health and life activity (increased) that follows left them appalled at the waste of time and life they allowed themselves. Yep, pot should be free choice, but not promoted except as an agricultural commodity to save resources

First there is not ideal solution, but rather several potential crops to use. If there is a market for industrial hemp then the use of manure in the crop could be a very valid fertilizer alternative.

Second, there is no manure that is to “hot” for use in a cropping system. Manures have much less salting potential and thus damage from salt than commercial fertilizers.

As far as storage, that is a situation that will happen regardless. While a crop may receive multiple applications of fertilizer, the USA alone has millions of acres that receive a single fertilizer application at planting only. I, personally, do not know of a cropping system, outside of a greenhouse, that requires weekly fertilizer applications. Under our cropping systems, unless the CAFO (confined animal feeding operation) has access to a lot of land (my guess, and this is just a wild a$$ guess, about 30 acres per 1000 pounds of livestock fed) with a very diversified cropping program (meaning a lot of different crops), some on-farm storage will be required.

Whats the difference between Xenon HID headlights and Bi-Xenon HID Headlights?

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Are Bi-Xenon HID the ones that appear whiter?
and Xenon HID are the ones that appear a bluish white?

like, the 2008 Acura TL has Bi-Xenon HID Headlights and the 2009 Acura TSX has Xenon HID Headlights.

Which headlights are better?

It has nothing to do with the color of the light!! Bi-Xenon are for cars that have the low beam and the high beam on the same bulb. That for cars like the Ford Mustang the newest one and like the Ford Ecosport or the Mazda Protege. Both have only one light bulb so they would need Bi-Xenon. And just Xenon HIDs are for cars that have separate high and low beams like a VW Golf or the Honda Accord. HID means High Intensity Discharge.

As for the color the graphic starts in red an goes to blue. Blue is for most intesity and red for less intensity. Thats why Xenon lights are sort of blueish and have their names HID.

In my personal opinion I would rather the Xenon HID because you have separate lamps and some of the you can graduate diferently and have a better vision than Bi-Xenon in which it both would depend on the same lamp angle.

Should Jeans be Blue or Black?

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Both colours will look great on you.

………..

I have both blue and black. I really like the look of the black ones when they are new but not as much when they are faded. Blue look good new or faded.

………….

Depends on what kind of look you’re going for. Blue or navy jeans are more casual while black is more down to earth/party hard.

……..

i think jeans were always meant to be blue. if they arent blue then they are just pants. i have only blue jeans.

………..

When I think jeans, I think classic blue denim.

Dallas DWI Lawyers

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

All states have drunk driving laws that say you are legally intoxicated with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of .08 or higher. A Dallas DWI lawyer will explain how some states such as New York will even charge you with being impaired if your BAC is less than .08. A DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) arrest can result in your losing your driver’s license. In fact, most states automatically start proceedings to suspend a person’s driver’s license immediately after an arrest for suspected DWI. While the time period varies from state to state, you will lose your license if you do not request a hearing within a specific number of days. This is why it is so important that you contact a Dallas DWI attorney immediately after your arrest.

You have one opportunity to keep your driver’s license from being suspended. After that, it is difficult to get your license back regardless of the need or circumstances and despite the fact that a court of law may find you innocent. Professional representation can ensure that you receive a fair trial and that your rights are upheld. Having the best Dallas DWI lawyers on your case make a big difference with regards to having to cope with the stresses and consequences of this charge or getting the charges dismissed.

Try Textbook Rentals

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

The book rental program has had much success since it was first introduced to most educators and students. There are many options of renting a college textbook—by purchasing online and getting the physical copy of the book; by downloading a copy like ebook and there are also universities who rent out their textbooks.

As numerous as these textbooks are, there are equally numerous advantages to renting books as compared to purchasing them. The biggest savings that a student could get could be as high as 75% as compared to new textbooks. Most college books are now priced at $100 or so. A bookstore (or an online shop) could rent it for students for only $25. The student also has the option to keep the rented textbook if he wants to. College book rental has really gone a long way from its conception.

Initially, textbook rental programs were funded by some states and some federal resources but now, more and more people are participating into this beneficial program. There are also private businesses that are targeting the student market by renting out college textbooks. In fact, the first ever online private textbook rental shop was the idea of several university graduates. With the growth of a program such as this, more and more businesses would flourish and money would be saved by many parents and college students.

Getting Stainless Steel Nerf Bars

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

If you have a truck, you’d most likely want to add some accessories to it. Actually, there are a lot of truck accessories that are sold in the market. All of them have their own useful features and they also help in enhancing the aesthetic appeal of your truck. They have a lot of practical values as well. Making a careful choice will help you find the best truck accessories that will be useful to you and your business. One of the many truck accessories that you should have are truck nerf bars.

There are actually all sorts of nerf bars that you can find in online and offline stores. There are nerf bars with black acrylic finish. You’d also find chrome plated nerf bars and stainless steel nerf bars. Nerf bars that are stainless are without doubt, the best in quality. However, you should be careful when purchasing stainless nerf bars. You need to take your time when purchasing stainless nerf bars to avoid fakes. Due to unstable nickel prices, stainless steel materials fluctuate and are often quite high. So, you need to find stores that are able to offer the most affordable prices and those that are genuine.

When looking for stainless steel nerf bars, look for highly buffed steel that would give brilliant mirror appearance. They should be covered with a warranty. Stainless nerf bars are usually non-pitting and resistant to corrosion so you are ensured of long years of use.

How to dive into the water in a swim meet?

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

I swim pretty fast but i’ve never got the hang of diving in, which is required during compeditions. if i dive in i normally make a splash and my goggles falls off. I bend my knees 45degrees and keep my head down but still doesn’t work. Any advice?

Okay, I don’t know what people are talking about with the shallow diving, because that just sounds painful. What I do is before I dive in, I push my goggles over my eyes so it has that suction-y feeling. Then, when I jump in, I tuck my head and put my arms right by my goggles on my head. When tucking my head, I tuck it enough so that if the rush of water were to pull at my head, it would pull at my forehead instead of where my goggles are. So, in other words, if you were to do it out of water, you would put your arms by your ears, and then tuck your head down to where your chin is almost touching your chest. Stance doesn’t really matter mainly because when you do dive, you should look up and out. This will enable you for some reason to jump farther out instead of down, and give you a better start for your race since most of the time you lose is on your start and turns.

So when diving, just remember to look up when pushing off, tuck your head in, and keep your arms by your head. This always works for me

—–

Not sure what kind of goggle you’re wearing, but you should be in the Tyr or Speedo racing style goggles, which are very small, and fit under your eyebrows, into the bone cavity. Then you make sure they are tight enough (not so tight as to close off the circulation, but snug enough that they won’t leak when you put your head under the water).
Assuming you are going in off the diving blocks, you stand at the front of the blocks, with your toes curled over the edge. Bend over and grab the front of the block with your hands, then let your hands hang loosely beside your legs. DO NOT SWING THEM BACK FOR A WINDUP. A lot of swimmers do this, and they lose as much as half a second by doing so. Your head should be down and your knees slightly bent. When the starting gun goes off, fling your arms forward, and aim for the other end of the pool, at the same time pushing off with your legs, as though you were going to sink a jump shot. Keep your head down as you go through the air and cut into the water. A good dive should take you past the 5m mark, where the lane markers change colour to let you know you are in the turn zone.
The secret to the whole thing is to launch yourself at the end of the pool, not down. Think of yourself as an arrow in flight, heading straight for the far end of your lane.
Keep at it! It takes a while to get the knack, but it you persist, you’ll get there. Then we can work on your flip turns….
