I am decorating my house

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

I am decorating my house at the moment and am thinking of getting new carpets everywhere as removing the furniture has really shown up the dirt on the floors! We are going to have someone in to do some quotes for us so that we can get an idea of cost. One thing that concerns me about getting new flooring is that certain parts are likley to wear out more quickly than others. I have been looking at getting some chair mats so that the carpets can be protected. I am especially concerned about the chairs at the desks because they have wheels and I think the fact that they will be moving back and forth all of the time will mean that there will be lots of wear on the carpet.

I hope that I can find a nice chair mat so that I can put it under the office chair and it will blend in with the room but still protect the carpet. I also need something which is the right size for the little floor space that we have in there as well as being safe with the chair that we have. I should be able to find a good computer chair mat for that purpose hopefully.

Window Replacement

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

I am looking for a window replacement Utah company at the moment. My windows are really draughty and so I want some mew ones. They have wooden frames and are about twenty years old and they have warped over the years. This means that when it is breezy or cold, the draught blows through the house. The front door and back door are draughty and they are opposite each other which means there is a through draught. On the first floor there are French doors opposite each other and we get the same problem with draughts. Then the main bedroom has the same type of draughty door.

The glass in a lot of the windows has blown meaning that it steams up between the pains of glass so they look dirty all of the time. I want to do some major renovations in the house and this Utah replacement windows will be the first part of the job. Hopefully it will save us some money on our heating bills as well. We are hoping that getting some new doors will smarten up the front of the house and the garden too. We are not supposed to change the front of the house so we may not be able to change the front door but hopefully might be able to find one that looks the same but is plastic and therefore not so draughty.

Wedding Table Decorations

Friday, February 27th, 2009

I am trying to decide on table decorations for my friend’s wedding. She has asked me to look into it for her as she is very busy with everything else. I have been looking at the traditional gift boxes for favors but I am wondering whether to do something a bit different. The flowers are already organised as well as the place cards so really this is the only feature of the table that has not be sorted out. I know that she has chosen some special heart shaped truffles for the guests and so I have been looking at cellophane bags but some of them are really just too plain. It is hard to find any that really match in with her decorations. I am therefore looking for something a bit different. I have wondered about just using a see through bag and tying it with pretty curling ribbon but I think that may look a bit cheap. Thankfully I have come across some very pretty candy bags which match in with her colour scheme and are not too expensive. I think they will be ideal so I will show them to her when I see her later and see what she thinks.

Understanding Doors

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Doors are the windows into your home. They are the portals that lead your guests into your humble abode. They are just as much a part of your home as any of your other furniture. This means that you should really think about what you want when it comes to picking your doors.

The first thing to consider is what you want for your exterior doors. These are very important. They need to be strong enough to protect your home from the elements but decorative enough to match the look and feel of your house. This isn’t that hard to do for the most part. There are plenty of doors available and most houses don’t need anything that is truly elaborate. You can just pick something that is tasteful and sturdy, and it will be just fine.

Interior doors are a bit of a different story. You need to ensure that they will grant the proper privacy and that they match your interior décor. Privacy is a bit of an important thing to remember when it comes to getting a good door. You will want something solid that will limit noise and securely seal off the bedrooms and bathrooms. Anything else will get really annoying fast.

These are just a few of the basics that you’ll need to know when it comes to picking out your doors. Keep them in mind and try to find something that is great for you.

Be In Control with Your Own Stuff

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

If you want to be in control with your own things, you have to know where they are located and how they are well placed inside a room. In your bathroom, you can make use of a bathroom organizer where you can put all your towels, under wear and etc. in it. Through this bathroom organizer, you will not have to go outside your bathroom and wet your entire floor with excess water from your body. Another thing that you can use inside your bathroom is a wall spice rack, quite surprising? Yes, you can make use of a wall spice rack by putting your toothbrush and toothpaste on it.

See? You just have to be imaginative to play around with your interior design. Another thing that comes from the kitchen and can be used inside the bathroom is a hanging spice rack. You can actually make use of it by putting some fresh flowers or plants in it. Through this, it will make you bathe more and more giving a natured feel inside your own bathroom, especially when looking up on your hanging spice rack. Undoubtedly, you can play with your imagination to give your bathroom a twist of design that you will surely love.

If you had four 32 watt florescent light bulbs in 1 fix…. not enough room see details below!

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

if you had four 32 watt florescent light bulbs in 1 fixture and 25 fixtures would they use more energy than fourteen 175 Watt metal halide light fixtures with light bulbs in them running?

Fluorescent 4-32W + E Ballast (~7W.) = 135W x 25 Fixt.s = 3375W.
Metal Hal.1- 175W. + Ballast (~15W.) = 190W. x 14 Fixt.s = 2660W.

How do I clean my house after construction

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Look There are men who are fixing the kitchen and are almost done but the thing is there is allot of dust on the couch and everything, even if I put those plastic covers its still dusty, what is the best was to clean the house after there done and the air so I an get my baby back from my mother

Every time I have had construction or home improvement projects done in my own home there is a lot of dust. I am a firm believer in sucking it all up with a vacuum that has a hepa filter and changing it often as it gets full. It is the easiest way to get the dust off of the odd surfaces like lamp shades, walls, blinds, on upholstery, pillows and even accessories. Dusting it away only works if you have one of those dusters or cloths that attract and hold the dust and not scatter it, but that takes more work than sucking it up with a vacuum.

—–

Wipe everything down. If they’ve been doing drywall, make sure you don’t use the vacuum to suck up the drywall dust unless you have a shop vac with a certain drywall dust bag. Drywall dust is suicide for a regular vacuum. I know that for a fact, I burned mine up cleaning after my hubby.

You should be fine vacuuming the dust off your furniture as long as you have a Hepa vacuum because you kept them covered. Using a shop vac on the furniture would be the best. Make sure you use your beater bar on the furniture, to really get it clean. You may also want to have your carpets steamed clean if you have a little one.

How to get reed of fruit fly’s?

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

I went to the store and got a lot of fruit for my daughter and had to of brought them home from the store because I did not have them before.

put out a glass of apple juice about 1/4 full with a drop of dish soap. It works as a trap and catches the flies pretty good. The dish soap breaks the surface tension and the bugs fall right in. Best if u place the trap close to the problem. Also they breed in sink drains so a drop of dish soap works good there too. I think they reproduce every 2 weeks so if u did this for 2 weeks you should be clear of it. Any fruity juice will work, I used the cheap fruit drink stuff. I bet wine would work best. With apple juice you can see in it to know how many your getting.

……………

Take a glass, pour red wine in the bottom, just a small amount cover the glass with saran wrap and take a small pointly object and poke some holes in the saran wrap.
Make sure the holes are not too big so they can get in and not out.

Does anyone know how to remove the glue from a price sticker, from a sheet of glass?

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

I purchased a large(ish) picture frame the other day, but they had put a big sales sticker on the glass, and I’ve wasted a lot of time trying to get the glue off.
Is there anything that will dissolve the glue and leave the glass shiny clean?

WD -40 will get it off, so will olive oil. Lay the glass flat and rub enough of either onto the sticker, wait awhile ( overnite if you can ) and it should come right off. You can use a glass cleaner like windex to get any residue from the oil or WD-40. You can also try Goo Gone but the two items I mentioned will be alot cheaper and work just as well.

———-

I used to be a picture framer and this is what we used for all sorts of goo removal, especially on the double stick tape used on the back of frames to attach the brown paper.
Take a piece of masking tape and stick it down over the sticker goo. Rub it hard. Then quickly pull it off. You may need to repeat a couple of times. Works on all sorts of surfaces without damaging them with chemicals.

———

Use either mineral spirits, lighter fluid or naptha. Don’t use WD-40, you’ll get more oily residue that you’ll have to clean.

Rubbing alcohol is actually good for application and it dries with no residue leaving no need for any further clean up.

How to redo my room “Tiffany’s Box” style. Any ideas?

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

I would like to have a tiffany’s box theme in my room. How could I do that? I thought of painting the walls Robin’s Egg Blue. I really like this ad by Tiffany’s
: http://blackeiffel.blogspot.com/2007/12/…

So maybe a Robin’s Egg Blue and White room?

well for starters, make sure you have the wall Prepped…

Go get your self some “Satin” Wall Paint…
“your color choice)
next if at all poossible cut and take color from mag in to the paint store let them match..

Important.. Paint trim first!! (if Painting trim at all? )

now take the lightest color and make that your base/ and or you can take the prep wall for darek paint.. if doing do prime with a 1 notch lighter primer…

go to www.seemydesign.com/

try a few dry runs there till you Decide your laypout.. without seeing what Graphics you may be using on walls for Decorations, I am unable to guive many tips… buut these should get ya in the right dir…

I love that idea, robin egg blue would be very cute.
You may want to use alot of white and silvers because those are the “clean colors” Maybe have a silver trim or stneciling at the top. Tie ribbons on any handles or slots….you know like a bow tie. If you are going to paint the walls blue i would get a white comforter beacuse it would be too much blue if you got a blue one. Also i would keep the beding very simple and elegant because tiffanys is a elegant store. Add little silver decorations everywhere because that is their specialty item!
