Angel the dog credited with saving kittens

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

You’ve heard of man bites dog. What about, dog saves cats? A two-year-old dog that had been turned over to the Nevada Humane Society’s shelter in Reno is being credited with rescuing six abandoned kittens.

Shelter Director Diane Blankenburg said it happened Monday while the two-year-old Boxer/Pit Bull mix named Angel was on a walk with a pair of volunteers, Frank Gomez and his 9-year-old stepson, Joel Fontes.

They were walking on the hot day with temperatures in the 90s when the dog became obsessed with something in the bushes. When she refused to move on, Gomez investigated and discovered a box full of 3-week-old orange tabby kittens that were frightened and hungry.

One of the abandoned kittens escaped before shelter staff were summoned to the scene, but Angel tracked it down and Gomez handed it over to safety.

Why is aluminum fence the best choice for a horse fence

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

You could be a person owning a total horse farm or just few horses! In both the cases what you mainly need is a good safety for them so that are well protected and you can look after them well. Just imagine that a fence is flexible and your horses in no time

Will be outside the boundaries of your farm or a stable because they have a great tendency to push their necks and heads into the fences! Hence for this reason most of the farmers prefer their horse fence to be an aluminium fence, which suits perfectly for the purpose.

When you know that the best choice of a horse fence is the aluminium fence, and then why not go for the best? This aluminium fence is equally strong as an iron, but at the same time rust formation is not seen. It is powder coated, so if you want to paint your fence you can do it with ease. It is has high durability standards and another advantage is that maintenance is not required and at the same time they provide a lifetime warranty so that the owner can just sit back and relax without getting tensed about protecting his horses! Vinyl fence is another option for horse fencing.

What can i feed by pet english budgie?

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

I know the budgies are able to eat seeds and lettuce but, what else is he allowed to eat?

he likes to eat oranges a lot, but is he allowed to?
and i heard that bread makes birds gain weight…is that true?

I feed my budgies Fiesta from Kaytee. It’s healthy. Though i don’t feed my keets, apples, oranges, bread, ect. Although fruits arn’t harmful, i would stick to what they usually eat. If you buy your bugdies food from a local store watch out for these bad ingrediants like:
Ethoxyquin
BHA
BHT

P.s. it depends on what kind of bread you have.

——

Proteins such as nuts, sunflower seed, cooked lean beef (fat removed) chicken, eggs, fish, tiny bits of HARD cheese (cheddar or jack), tofu, cooked beans (lentil, kidney, pinto, navy, black).

No caffeine, chocolate. Don’t feed processed sugar. Watch that you aren’t feeding much salt.

Budgies can tend toward fatty liver disease so watch that they don’t eat too many nuts or fatty seeds. Don’t let him fill up on empty calories (like white bread).

Basically, if it’s good for you it’s probably good for your bird. Just remember that he’s tiny and don’t let him eat five whole pasta noodles. That would be tantamount to you eating them by the gallon :-)

Kitten Worms? (not for the timmid)?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

I have 2, 5 month old kittens and one has worms I guess . I saw rice like white things in his but, besides taking him to the vet what can I do. I love them dearly but funds are really tight. Also are they harmful to humans?

Those are tapeworms - and nothing that you can buy over the counter will get rid of them, I’m afraid. You’ll need Drontal from the vet, and a flea treatment as well (that’s the most common way that cats/kittens get tapeworm). They will both need to be treated, as I’m sure they share the litterbox. If you are already an existing client at a vet, then give them a call, tell them what you’ve seen, and they will most likely give you medication for both of them. If you don’t have a vet, try calling your local shelters to see if they have a vet on staff who’ll see the public. Many of them do, at a low cost. Or sometimes they have shot clinics, and will also do dewormings at them. Make sure you specify that they have tapeworms - the “standard” wormer works well on roundworms, etc but doesn’t do a thing for tapeworms.

Once they’ve been treated, dump the litter in their boxes, bleach the boxes, and fill with fresh litter. This kills any eggs in the litter that they could reinfect themselves with. As long as you practice good hygiene after cleaning the boxes, the worms aren’t a threat to you.

———

Those are tapeworms. You’ll have to get them to the vet for treatment. Tapeworms can cause anemia and your kittens will get sick. It’s inexpensive to treat tapeworms at the vet. Don’t use any of the WalMart/Petsmart wormers. They can be dangerous to your kittens. They also need flea treatment. Cats get tapeworms from ingesting fleas when they groom. Sorry, but you’ll have to give up ordering pizza or something for a few days and get the kittens the care they need. You can become infected but you’d have to eat a flea to do it.

Goldfish sizes?

Monday, July 14th, 2008

How big will my fantail grow to be in a 7 Gallon tank with fantastic filtration?

Not very big. One goldfish requires a minimum of a 20 gallon tank. Good filtration is great but when a goldfish is cramped it won’t appear to grow externally but it’s internal organs keep growing. This leads to organ failure and eventually death.

………

well its insides will grow to big the fish will be stunted and it will burst and die

get a bigger 30 gallon tank

What kind of fish can i put in a 10 gallon?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

personally about 5 corydoras and 2 gouramis with a couple of live plants will look wonderful. im telling you taht you cant go wrong with a set up like this!

—-

Small Tetras. Guppies. Rasboras. White Clouds. All need to school in a group no less than 5.

——

i would say tetras 4-6 need to be in groups ,neons, danios or guppies with some plants/stones i would not say gouramis as they grow very big and can over crowd your 10 gal tank

Serious behaviour issues with cat after bladder infection! Please help!?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

My cat recently had a bladder infection…it started with her urinating on the astro turf like pad that we put in front of her box as a litter tracker. We removed it, and she stoped urinating elsewhere so we figured she was just confused. Recently though, we noticed her urinating in our SINK! It also had blood in it, so we immediately took her to the vet and they put her on Clavamox. However, she is STILL urinating in our sink, in on our puppies Sod Box (a small box of grass built for him on our porch, since we live in a high rise apartment building). And, this morning I was just sitting around, when she walked up to me and started rubbing my leg. I started petting her and she PEED ON ME, as if she were spraying to mark her territory! I don’t know what to do! I love this cat, but I have two other females and I don’t know what I’ll do if they ALL start marking!

It really depends on how long she’s been on the meds. Also, the infection she has may not respond to the meds she’s prescribed. To top it off, she could be having crystals in urine, or her muscle around her bladder could be very irritated from the infection. All of which gives her poor control, and when she has to go, she has to go NOW. I’d control her space until she is better. Put her in a room that is med size, so she can get to the litter box QUICKLY. Also, consider what litter you are using. Scented litter may bother her. If you only have one litter pan, the other cats may be blocking it from her (cats will pick on a sick cat). Make sure she has a litter pan that is very clean always near her, and limit her area. Bedroom would work, so would bathroom. Cats dont normally mark their humans like this, the mark their smell on their humans by rubbing on them, or massaging their paws on them, not urine. I’d guess there is still a health concern.

——

It can take more than one round of antibiotics, or a stronger antibiotic, to clear up a UTI. We just went through this with one of my foster cats - she had bacteria in her urine, went through a round of Clavamox, and was fine for a week. Started peeing on the kitchen floor, so we went for a round of Baytril. That seems to have done the trick. I suspect that the first round of antibiotics wasn’t enough, and another round will do the trick. Call the vet tomorrow, explain that she still appears to be having a problem, and they can give you a different antibiotic for her.

How do tame an aggressive rabbit?

Friday, June 6th, 2008

She probably needs spaying, this is not her fault.. Please read up on basic rabbit care in here:

while I turn in the unhelpful posters that “answered” your note in infantile and unsavory way-guess they have no clue, so of course, blame the animal.
Question: If you locked up a cat in a cage, how would you expect that animal to behave? Rabbits often times are locked up with minimal contact, and very boring life.
After awhile they get to where they know that nothing else is theirs, so they get protective over their jail cell. This is called “cage protectiveness”….rabbits are very smart, usually get into less trouble than a house cat, you can rabbit proof a room with very little expense or trouble and have a happier pet.
They should not be unhappy as yours seems to be, so I am just guessing that a huge part of the problem is that she is not spayed. Get that done, read how to properly care for her, treat her with consideration: instead of “what you can get” think of what you have to offer her. I am very glad you took time to reach out and ask before just dumping at a shelter, as they are so full they are in many places euthanizing after very short holding times. Might be due to the slow econonmy, but rabbits (along with other pets) are being dumped in alarming numbers in parks (slow scary deaths by animals, cars, cruel people,& exposure) and in overcrowded shelters, which most times do pts in a humane way. (not always tho…rabbits are still treated poorly, as the other answerers on this page will show) I sure hope that the rabbit references help you to help your rabbit.

What kind of fish should i get?

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

1.      shave it.

2.      I know this isn’t a fish, but you should consider getting African mini-frogs. They are fun to watch and play well with other fish.

3.      Maybe 3 or 4 African cichlids. 20 is too small for Dempseys and large cichlids.

4.      Damzels

5.      female betta are nice, you can find them in pretty colors if you look hard, and lots of little guys like neons and tetras are pretty easy

6.      I don’t know much about fish. But one thing I do know is get fish that can mix together. They say three of the same.

7.      The cute little mini sharks.

8.      cichlids are mean dont get them!!!! i have some danio’s platty’s those are the ones i have had the best luck with. but make sure to get a succker fish or and algi eater also… snails aren’t that great.

Do u find cats scary?

Saturday, December 1st, 2007
  1. No I don’t and you wouldn’t either if you gave them a chance.
  2. OMG yes! and cat ppl get insulted when i get scared of their cats

as to why? i dunno something in the eyes, the way they strut…the whole superstition thing about them…..both my siblings claim they saw a black cat in their room when they awoke in the mid of the night and everything in the house was locked…both were on different occasions

  3. I definitely find cats creepy. I couldn’t tell you exactly why, but I think it is because they remind me of evil magic( you know black cats and witches).
  4. I love cats! Had cats all my life! Never had a dog. Cats are so cool!
  5. I find them intriguing! You never know what is going on in that head. And their eyes are just stunning! It is kinda creepy when they jump up and do the crazy cat run without any provocation, but hell, it’s really entertaining after the initial startle.
  6. No I like cats but some can look scary if they have no ears or something or those hairless cats, those are creepy.
  7. shave it.
  8. No not at all….but I know someone who is…..lol
